My DIY Home Wedding
Jonathan and I had already put down our names at potential wedding venues when the pandemic slowly crept into the U.S. Similar to other engaged couples during this time, we had no choice but to play it by ear. One month of waiting turned into two months, three months, and then finally four months went by without any significant improvements in California. We had to revisit the drawing board and figure out whether we should wait out the pandemic to have a traditional wedding with all of our loved ones present, or cut the waiting time short by having a small wedding at home. The decision was a no-brainer for me because I’d always wanted an intimate wedding, but Jonathan was quite heartbroken over the thought of not having all of our family and friends with us. I completely understood his heart. It was going to be one of the most significant moment of our lives, after all.
So, we put our heads together and came up with a satisfying compromise: Jon would make sure that everyone he loves would be able to witness our ceremony via Zoom, and I would be in charge of all the visual details, so neither of us would have any regrets about this event.
We truly did the best we could, and by the grace of God, it all worked out even better than we hoped. From the dress to the cake, everything was homemade and all of our precious friends and family were able to join us through livestream. It was the most fun we’ve ever had! We hope our wedding journey could encourage you in some way. It was a privilege to get to share my reflections with you through My Balcony Wedding series!
